  • In Hinduism, Krishna is the eight incaranatuion of Lord Vishnu.

  • Krishna is often depicted as young boy (or baby) playing a flute, as a young prince giving direction.

  • Krishna appears in many different texts including Mahabharata, Harivamsa, Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana.

  • In India, Krishna has been worshipped since at least the 4th Century BCE. Since the 1960s, worship of Krishna has also spread to the West, in large part due to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON - known colloquially as the "Hare Krishna movement").

  • Krishna also appears in Jainism, and in the Jakata tales in Buddhism. He is recognized as a Manifestation of God (one of several prophets across the ages who progressively revealed the Word of God) in the Bahá'í faith. Members of the Ahmadiyya Islamic community believe that Krishna was a great prophet - and there is a reported saying by the Muhammad the Islamic Holy Prophet: "There was a prophet of God in India who was dark in colour and his name was Kahan".
